Who We Are

Halophore is a Indianapolis-based startup working to commercialize a suite of technologies using a proprietary class of fluorescent materials known as Small Molecule Ionic Isolation Lattices, or SMILES. Our primary focus is the development of a novel laser technology that integrates SMILES as its critical component. Founded in 2018, the company came about as a result of a successful collaboration between the research labs of Professor Amar Flood (Indiana University) and Professor Bo Laursen (University of Copenhagen).

Over its lifetime, Halophore has been the recipient of support from the National Science Foundation (I-Corps program participant and SBIR Phase I award), the National Institutes of Health (SBIR Phase I award) and Elevate Ventures, an Indiana-based venture capital fund.

Halophore has several active collaborations with industrial and academic partners and is always looking for new ways to accelerate cutting-edge fluorescence technologies with SMILES. If you have a fluorescence problem, we want to hear from you - we may have your answer. Contact tech@halophore.com with your inquiry.
